Shelter and NFSL

Millions of people in South Sudan lack safe and dignified shelter, a crisis exacerbated by ongoing conflict, displacement, and food insecurity.

The Wonderland Development Agency (WDA) recognizes the direct link between shelter and protection, health, and well-being, which is why our Shelter and NFIs program provides critical relief in desperate situations.

Dire Needs, Dire Consequences:

2.3 million people urgently need safe shelter and non-food items (NFIs).

Children are especially prone to health risks like cholera without adequate shelter.

Women and children face increased protection risks due to displacement and insufficient shelter.

Host communities struggle to share limited resources with displaced populations, straining access to vital NFIs.

WDA's Approach:

  • Emergency Shelter: Providing materials and support to construct temporary shelters, offering essential protection from the elements and restoring some sense of security.
  • Essential NFIs: Distributing critical household items like blankets, cooking supplies, and hygiene products, ensuring basic needs are met in times of crisis.
  • Protecting the Vulnerable: Prioritizing the safety and dignity of women and children in our shelter and NFI distribution.
  • Supporting Host Communities: Recognizing the strain on host communities, we work to ease tensions and facilitate equitable access to essential resources.

Impact:

WDA’s Shelter and NFIs program goes beyond providing immediate relief. It aims to:

  • Reduce vulnerability to disease and the harsh environment.
  • Mitigate the protection risks facing women and children.
  • Foster dignity during times of crisis.
  • Support host communities, promoting stability and reducing resource conflict.

The Wonderland Development Agency believes everyone deserves a safe place to call home. Our Shelter and NFIs program strives to provide life-saving support and create a foundation for families to recover and rebuild in the aftermath of conflict and disaster.
